Dirty Money Terrible People Reviewed in Money Marketing Publication
Money Marketing is the dominant publication covering retail financial services in the UK. And as “Dirty Money Terrible People” features a London based wealth management company I was really pleased with this review.
I’ve worked in financial services and have been a Non-Executive Director of a large wealth management business for some time. I chair the board risk committee and as a result can tell you there is a good deal of authenticity when it comes to the anti-money laundering regulation covered in the book. The same would be true of what happens in DPK as I spent about twenty years in two of the “Big Four” global accountants. But let me stress “Dirty Money Terrible People” is a work of fiction!
I have written a lot of non-fiction over the years. This included regular articles in Money Marketing and substantial quarterly publications for clients when working as an Executive Director at EY. Much as I enjoy the writing I wouldn’t classify it as fun. You can’t make it up as you go along! The structure needs to be planned, the content needs to be discussed with colleagues, the tone of voice needs to be measured and there is no room for flights of fancy. But when I write fiction I think the years of writing about business stuff have paid off.
I find that I tend to write short paragraphs and end up with far more chapters than most authors. Just like non-fiction it can be helpful for readers to absorb bite-sized pieces rather than whole meals all at one time. I also try and be concise. But I don’t know how I ended up with 480 words in the book! Most important I stick to three very important rules. It must be credible, concise and easy to read.
If writing non-fiction is not exactly fun, I find the opposite applies to fiction. I love writing fiction and I’ll tell you more about this in my next blog
